About Christy Wilkins
I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember, as a child with my crayons all over our wood deck in the backyard, to my current paintings on canvas. I’m predominantly a self taught artist having learned techniques from my mom, high school art teacher, community painting classes, one year attendance at Ca. College of Arts and Crafts (Oakland), and painting/drawing/crafting alongside my art loving friends through the years. I prefer to paint with acrylics. Most of my artwork is described as whimsical pieces, full of color, movement and emotion. I love to paint images from out of my imagination. Adding a unique touch to an otherwise normal subject warms my heart and makes me strive to keep on creating.
My love of the ocean is present in a large portion of my pieces. As a child I lived in Moss Beach, Ca. where some of my first memories were formed at the beach, exploring tide pools, hiking the cypress forested cliffs, staring at the waves crashing on the shore. Later in life I took up scuba diving with my husband. I have been so lucky to dive the Northern California coast, Monterey Bay, shipwrecks off Panama City Beach in Florida, and the island of Roatan, Honduras. It excites me to try and get my perspective of the world across to others with the simple tools of paint and a brush. I consider myself lucky to be a California native, living mainly coastal all of my life. I have lived in Atascadero for the past 9 years now, and adore the people and SLO county area with all it has to offer. I couldn’t imagine a better place to raise my kids and be an artist. When I’m not busy with my family, I’m painting in my studio, or creating plein air paintings somewhere amongst the gorgeous San Luis Obispo County. I have a gallery and working studio space in the Studios on the Park Gallery located in the center of downtown Paso Robles (1130 Pine St, Paso Robles, CA 93446). There you can find many of my available original paintings and myself busy at work early most weekdays. I hope you enjoy my artwork and thank you for taking the time to read up on me. ~Christy Wilkins P.S.
